Senior Accountant
Location: Corporate Headquarters, Lincolnshire, IL, US
Position Type: Full-time
Salary range: $80,000 - $90,000
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to serve as the primary accountant for the organization. This role is responsible for managing daily accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and supporting leadership with actionable financial insights. The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining compliant, timely, and accurate financial reporting while also partnering with management to identify opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, and revenue growth.
This position works closely with the Controller and cross-functional teams, handling a variety of accounting, financial reporting, and analytical projects that support the company’s strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Own day-to-day accounting operations, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities
- Reconcile all balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Perform monthly reconciliations for all bank accounts and investigate discrepancies
- Calculate, prepare, and file sales and use tax returns across multiple states
- Register the company in additional states as nexus is established
- Maintain and manage the Advanced Revenue Management (ARM) module to ensure deferred revenue is recorded accurately and in accordance with accounting standards
- Prepare complete and accurate monthly financial statements, investigating and explaining variances and unusual activity
- Create supplemental monthly and ad-hoc financial reports to support leadership decision-making
- Support management by identifying potential cost savings, efficiency opportunities, and trends impacting revenue
- Assist with payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and close attention to detail
- Collaborate with and cross-train other members of the accounting team; provide backup support as needed
- Contribute to special financial and sales support projects as assigned by the Controller
Accountabilities & Success Metrics
- Sales and use tax filings are accurate, complete, and submitted on time
- Financial statements are prepared timely and free from material error
- Deferred revenue and revenue recognition are properly maintained and auditable
- Payroll is processed accurately and consistently
- Accounting processes are well-documented, efficient, and continuously improved
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred)
- 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a multi-state or growth-oriented environment
- Experience with NetSuite is strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting best practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
- Exceptional organizational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; proactive in identifying issues and solutions
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently or as part of a team
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting deadlines
