Spellography Book A: diagnostic survey
In Spellography Book A, students learn the layer-cake structure of the English Language as a backbone for all the following lessons. Book A contains mostly Old English base words. Students focus on developing closed syllable and consonant spellings skills including initial and final blends, digraphs (ck, ng) and trigraphs (dge), hard/ soft c and g, and the doubling rule and -ed and plural suffixes.

Spellography Book B: diagnostic survey
In Spellography Book B, students explore the drop e rule and y-rule for endings and gradually learn Latin word form. They seamlessly continue their study of consonant spellings with spellings for /ch/ in Unit 7. Students learn vowel-r spellings in Unit 8 and then proceed to a review of previously covered consonant spellings in Unit 9. In Unit 10, students continue to explore vowel spellings, with the vowel chart and the remaining syllable types. Students study open syllables in Unit 11 and progress to VCe spellings in Unit 12.

Spellography Book C: diagnostic survey
Spellography Book C continues students’ investigation of vowel spellings, with a focus on Latin word form and morphology. In Unit 13 students study vowel-teams and -cle syllables. In Unit 15, they revisit their study of vowel-r syllables. The remaining three units in Book C cover long vowel spelling by position in a word or syllable.

Spellography Book D: diagnostic survey
The advanced word study within Spellography Book D helps guide students’ access to content words they will encounter in literature, science and math. Students revisit hard/soft g and c in multisyllable Latin and Greek-based words and complex vowel-r spellings. Then, they delve into assimilated prefixes and derivational suffixes. Unit 24 concludes Book D by investigating mathematical language as a model for how to apply word study to content instruction.
