Senior Systems Engineer

Location: Corporate Headquarters, Lincolnshire, IL, US

Position Type: Full-time

Salary range: $90,000 - $100,000

The Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for evaluating, designing, planning, implementing and maintaining software systems and platforms utilized for 95 Percent Group operations.The position will also be an escalation resource for end user support of these systems.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Implementation and management of software systems and platforms 
    1. Design software system/platform implementations and base configurations
    2. Implement software systems/platforms including integrations with existing cloud and on-premises infrastructure
    3. Deploy software systems/platforms to technology assets including end user devices
    4. Monitor and maintain software systems and platforms
      1. Monitor, diagnose, and resolve inefficiencies with software systems/platforms for performance and availability
      2. Actively manage software systems/platforms to maintain alignment with identified service goals
  2. Software systems and platforms support
    1. Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 tech support for company software systems/platforms including end user support escalations and assisting end users with accessing vendor support resources, where appropriate
  3. Engineer, implement, and monitor security measures to protect computer systems, networks, and information based on industry best practices
    1. Implement logging and monitoring of systems and integration with security tools
    2. Identify system vulnerabilities and manage software patches, including review, approval, and priority
  4. Network and infrastructure management
    1. Monitor, configure, and maintain major network and infrastructure resources including Identity and Access Management (Okta/Entra), DNS, email authentication, public cloud resources (Azure/AWS/GCP), and productivity platforms (Microsoft 365/Google Workspace)
    2. Monitor, configure, and maintain the corporate network including Active Directory Domain Services, DHCP, DNS and wired/wireless physical networks
  5. Technology asset management
    1. Assist with tracking and managing technology assets including networking equipment and end user devices
    2. Perform end user asset provisioning and deprovisioning as needed
    3. Additional technology related tasks
    4. Identify persistent technology challenges and recommend action plans to mitigate the challenges

Accountabilities:

  • Critical software systems and platforms have availability and performance that exceeds identified minimum service goals
  • Software systems and platforms are implemented within project scope and timelines
  • Software systems and platforms are actively managed to continuously improve security and actively monitored to identify security incidents
  • End users are provided timely responses to support escalation requests and all support requests are managed until a resolution is identified

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred
  • Strong understanding of technology networking and infrastructure concepts; CCNA and/or Network+ certifications strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of applied information security concepts; Security+ certification preferred
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple concurrent tasks
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to discuss and explain complex concepts to audiences with a wide range of technical knowledge
  • Understanding of project management concepts 
  • Demonstrated 2+ years experience designing, implementing, deploying, and managing Identity Provider applications and integrations (i.e Okta, Duo, or any other IdP)
  • Demonstrated 2+ years experience designing, implementing, deploying, and managing Software as a Service environments and cloud platforms for mission critical technologies
  • Demonstrated 2+ years experience managing and supporting Microsoft 365 environments including strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 integrations, security tools, and compliance tools
  • Demonstrated experience applying critical thinking and analysis skills to achieve successful outcomes in a corporate environment

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • This position is required to do a moderate to heavy level of physical work and lift up to 51 pounds 
  • The employee is frequently required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, use ladders and to reach with using arms and hands, as required to deploy and maintain technology equipment
  • The work environment is typically an office with an average noise level, however duties may require working for short periods (< 4 hours) in a data center environment with above average noise levels (< 80 dBA)
  • Local travel may be required infrequently
